When NEIL POSTMAN first wrote this book in 1985 he never could of dreamed of the prophetic implications it would have a quarter century later. MTV was only a few years old, computers were still in their infancy, cell phones, IPODS, wifi and the like were still sci-fi. Postman was one of Americas leading education and communication theorists,he was a professor at New York University for over 40 years and authored more than 20 books. He goes from how language has changed and the advent of the clock, yes, the clock, thru the printing press, the telegraph, radio, and television has dramatically changed societies. In what ways our discourse has been changed in the education, political, religious and all other areas as technology changed how we communicate. Postmans masterful and experienced writing abilities make this an easy and entertaining as much as an informative and insightful venture into the social psyche. He believed, and i would agree, that the elite control the masses in the manner of Huxleys Brave New World. Thru mindless entertainment and professional propaganda, the rulers give the people the “bait” and they willingly and unknowingly become sheep. Although today we see Orwells 1984 as a large part of the system of control,Huxleys vision of the future is also an integral method of controlling the masses. This book should be a mandatory read for all high school students. And now with the computer age upon us, Postmans amazing visionary mind is more pertinent today than when Neil penned this in 1985. Neil Postman died in 2003,but his insight still teaches us today.
Edward Bernays, the nephew of Sigmund Freud, wrote this book in 1928, but the techniques herein are probably even more relevant today. Originally,in years past, actually centuries ago,the word propaganda wasn’t considered a bad word. Bernays takes us on a trip mainly from the 19th to early 20th century on how propaganda was used by those in power to get their ideas and agendas across. Bernays himself was one of the masters of the use of propaganda in his time, so this book comes from the source itself. From marketing a product to sell to consumers to political and psychological uses Bernays shows the methods most effective in manipulating the masses. A very insightful venture into a world the average joe knows nothing about. Probably the best single sentence in this book if i had to pick one explaining itself is as follows. “We are governed, our minds molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.”
Author and researcher William H. Kennedy has compiled an impressively documented piece of work on satanic driven crimes in modern times. Begining with a brief history of Satanism in America in the 20th century. From Aleister Crowley [ The Great Beast] to Anton Levey, the Church of Scientology, the Process Church of the Final Judgment,Michael Aquino and the Temple of Set to other less known Satanic cults. He then moves on to the killers themselves. Much of the information contained is from the killers themselves. From Charles Manson to David Berkowitz [ Son of Sam ], Richard Ramirez [Night Stalker], Ricky Kasso, Varg Vikernes [ Death Metal Killer ], Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold [ Columbine Killers ], Jeff Weise and other cases. The main stream media seldoms makes a peep of the Satanic origins of any murders. And in fact the police and FBI are told to keep quiet on cases when evidence of Satanic cult murders take place . A very well researched and intresting,if not terrifing journey into the minds of truly possessed killers.
